WBSC Organising Committee Meeting with the President of Sri Lanka

The 60th Anniversary Celebration of the World Buddhist Sangha Council (WBSC) and the Second Executive Committee Meeting of the 11th General Conference will be held in Sri Lanka from 28 November to 2 December.

A special discussion to organize the arrangements for the event was held on 24th February 2026 at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of H.E.  Anura Kumara Dissanayake President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
This event will bring together Buddhist Sangha and lay representatives from Sri Lanka and abroad. To ensure the necessary government support, the President instructed that a Joint Coordination Committee to be appointed, comprising of the Minister of Buddha Sasana, a representative of the Presidential Secretariat, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, the Inspector General of Police, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.

Approximately 600 delegates from 50 countries, representing the Theravāda, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna Buddhist traditions are expected to grace this occasion. Around 500 Sri Lankan Buddhist monks, including the Chief Prelates of the three Nikayas, will also participate.
Invitations will be extended to heads of state from Buddhist countries, including the King of Bhutan.
The opening ceremony will be held on 28 November at Nāgānanda International Institute for Buddhist Studies in Kelaniya. 

The President emphasized that the 60th Anniversary Celebration is an event of national importance and assured the full support of the government.

The President reiterated that  this event will reaffirm the Sri Lankan Buddhist heritage on the global platform and further enhance the reputation of the country.
